Union Chain Bridge

Spanning the border between England and Scotland this Category A/ Grade I listed structure was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge in the world on its installation in 1820.

Placed on the Buildings at Risk Register in 2013, Colour developed proposals in 2018 to support a planning application and HLF bid for funding to restore the bridge, with our scope focusing on the arrival areas to either end, the provision of better visibility to the bridge and creating a better sense of arrival at this important structure. Read about plans that are underway to disassemble, modernise and rebuild the bridge here.
