Bedworth Physical Activity Hub & Miners’ Welfare Park,
Warwickshire
Set on a former colliery site originally bequeathed for the health of the mining community, Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council’s aim is a contemporary take - to increase public participation in active lifestyles for their physical and mental wellbeing.
Rebuilding the leisure centre will promote healthy behaviour by opening up the park with intuitive new paths, facilities and activity nudges that appeal to all ages and levels of activity. The history and character of the park is celebrated through access to its vantage points.
A memorable oval path has been created in the park, replacing a poorly drained football pitch which has been upgraded by a state of the art AWP. Other new facilities include a café to draw in visitors and overlook a learn to ride bike track. First phases completed a pump track and mountain bike trail that explores the park and will get people into nature.
Highly collaborative design process with Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council
A people focussed experiential masterplan that maximises the site’s physical attributes to encourage exploration, physical activity and promote wellbeing
An approach of biodiversity enhancement including a SUDs system within green infrastructure designed to enhance the user experience
Delivery to a prescribed budget
