Biodiversity Roadmap for Green and Blue Infrastructure
Liverpool John Moores University
The Biodiversity Roadmap for Green and Blue Infrastructure is a critical piece of environmentally regenerative thinking which translated LJMU’s policy and vision into a structured transformation programme for implementation across all their sites on both campuses over a 5 year period.
To enhance the wellbeing of nature, students and staff in the short, medium and long term, the focus was on :
Local nature recovery through practical interventions
Climate resilience through summer shading and reduced drainage discharge, particularly during storm events
Affordance of external spaces to offer social value, the setting for a good life
Colour led a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team with highly focussed stakeholder engagement within the university’s estates and academic teams across welfare, biological sciences and sports.
The methodology challenges the purpose of hard and soft landscape assets both for user experience and operational requirements on each site and as part of the wider city fabric as both a good neighbour and a beacon of knowledge for future careers.
