Kaaki Pilgrims Hotel
Makkah, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Colour were approached by HKR Architects to help design the masterplan, public realm and landscape for the world’s largest hotel in Makkah.
Accommodating 40,000 pilgrims, a solution was created that created a high quality guest experience whilst seamlessly dealing with the interfaces of journeys to and from the airport, pilgrimage locations and logistics of catering and wider servicing.
A 2 level public space concept was developed with a narrative of progression, broad cross-axial walkways and incidental spaces that connect to semi-private courtyards.
Design was founded on faith, natural cooling with water, canopies and intuitive way finding so that people can explore the hotel with a comfortable sense of orientation.
