Emma has a broad operational role backed up by over 26 years professional experience as a designer, project manager and facilitator.

She leads landscape teams in the design and delivery of projects for the benefit of our communities and diverse cities, towns and valued countryside.

She is driven by a passion that every project deserves a considered, bespoke approach regardless of scale - rooted in a thorough understanding of its context and features.

Having worked within multi-disciplinary teams throughout her career, Emma truly understands the value of a collaborative approach from developing concepts through to successful completion on site.

Emma ensures that the Colour team takes this approach through our studio with support, technical review, management and mentoring of more junior staff members such that current best practice and standards are achieved.

She is a Fellow of the RSA, expert panellist with DesigNE and thought leader in Biodiversity Net Gain. As a firm believer in lifelong learning Emma is currently collaborating with Advance Northumberland’s ecologists to create the region’s largest habitat bank and offering CPD sessions to other disciplines in navigating BNG through planning applications.

Notable projects that Emma has led include delivery of the highly complex multilevel Milburngate overlooking the River Wear and Cathedral in Durham, transformative restoration of the Kirkleatham Walled Gardens and the award-winning Northgate Hospital mental health unit with its active biophilic courtyards.

Emma is a co-founder of Colour’s Thursday 5k running club.

Nearly 20 years at Colour has gone by in a flash – I am very proud of our brilliant team and the passion and care we all have for all of the projects that we support.
