Newcastle University

Newcastle University's overarching vision is to create and enhance the campus to become a coherent, recognizable, sustainable, pedestrian-friendly and welcoming place. The Vice Chancellor's ambition is for 'town to meet gown'. A partnership project between the international INTO organisation and Newcastle University initiated the first project and required a complex series of resolutions between teaching and residential blocks, public and private space, front of house and complex level changes. Public realm and gardens for the new Faculty of Medical Sciences building at the Baddiley-Clark Building followed alongside the reworking of an important quadrangle adjacent to Basil Spence's iconic Herschel Building - a study driven by maximising the benefits of good microclimate and the changing movement dynamic of the campus.
