Chilterns Lifestyle Centre

Amersham

‍Colour developed and designed the external active environment for this £33.15m new leisure centre completed in 2022. Located 480m from the local railway station this destination enjoys excellent connectivity with the town centre, local communities and adjacent King George V Park.

‍The scheme is an excellent example of collaborative design, with the building sited such that a central atrium not only organises wet and dry facilities -but also aligns with a view of a group of fine mature broadleaved trees in the park.  These give a strong sense of place, an outdoor feeling and the calming effect of nature not only to users of the climbing wall but all visitors to the leisure centre.

‍The scheme includes outdoor studio space on the roof whist on the ground there is an all wheels park, pétanque, basketball court, young children’s play and outdoor gym.

‍The planning process was rigorous and included Design Review Panel presentation and extensive liaison with the local urban design officer to create the best possible solution so as to comfortably fit this major investment into a leafy suburban setting within London’s Home Counties.‍

Since opening, visitor numbers have been reported to be significantly raised in comparison with the previous facility and Facebook gives an idea of some of the active lifestyles and experiences :
