Kazusa is an award‑winning landscape designer in our Newcastle studio, bringing international experience grounded in environmental science and horticulture.

She is energised by the potential of green infrastructure to transform brownfield sites into vibrant, playful places that reconnect people with nature. Her academic work has been widely recognised with published articles, awards in both the UK and Japan. Her research on agricultural landscape attachment using text‑mining to explore links between personal history and conservation was published in the Journal of the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture.

At Colour, Kazusa contributes across all project stages, from briefing and concept design to delivery. She played a key role in the Farrell Centre’s Flyover Futures competition win, helping to reimagine Gateshead’s flyover as a catalyst for place‑making. She also helped shape the healthy, people‑focused landscape vision for the competition‑winning Clasper Village housing scheme on the Gateshead riverside, designing generous green spaces that support active, community‑centred living.

Kazusa brings strong illustrative skills, a collaborative mindset and a passion for meaningful, functional green design. Outside the studio, she is a keen reader, teaches Japanese to young Japanese students and explores landscapes through jogging, hiking and tennis.

Listening to local voices is often more challenging than making design decisions independently as a designer. However, the process is also far more rewarding, as it fosters a strong sense of shared ownership and trust - as though we are creating “our space”.
