Frances Turner
Landscape Designer
BA Landscape Architecture & Design, Leeds Beckett University 2023
Fran, promoted to Landscape Designer in 2024, is committed to improving urban environments through health‑focused, sustainable and people‑centred design.
Her work is shaped by biophilia and a belief in the value of accessible green spaces for mental wellbeing and healthier lives, particularly in dense urban settings. This perspective guides her interest in creating places that feel welcoming, restorative and closely connected to nature.
Fran has contributed to a wide range of projects, including a competition‑winning public square in Farnborough, the Farrell Centre’s Flyover Futures winning entry, a mental health facility in Leeds, a school in Derbyshire, Paragraph 84e homes and support for the University of East London’s Active Campus. She aims to embed greening into everyday city life, creating spaces that connect with people of all ages. Outside the studio, she enjoys climbing, spending time with friends and exploring the countryside with her family and their dog.
She joined Colour full‑time in 2023 after a successful placement during her studies at Leeds Beckett University, quickly demonstrating strong technical, graphic and professional development. Fran brings creativity and sensitivity to each project, drawing on her understanding of human psychology, a passion for the outdoors and a design ethos centred on community benefit. Her skills span sketching, problem‑solving, production drawings and visualisation, supported by proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp, Lumion and InDesign.
My interests in travel and experiences exploring the world have helped broaden my design perspective by exposing me to a variety of cultures and environments.
This inspired me to create more culturally responsive and diverse landscapes.
