All urban or rural places have the potential to either promote or discourage activity. The physical, emotional and financial impacts of inactivity on the health of individuals and society as a whole are very well documented – it is a killer that rivals smoking and an enormous burden to health services.
At Colour we understand how activity can be encouraged through layouts and landscape design from regional and masterplans down to individual site scale through everyday items. It is the way that we think and design, and our finished work in the fields of public realm, leisure, education, exploratory play, residential and commercial development has been testament to this for the past 20 years.
Collaboration and new connections are key to driving active placemaking forward and we are keen to work with new partners to bring real change to our communities. We are currently advising Sport England in the preparation of practical guidance in the delivery of Active Environments.
